So we are now in the process of sending out document inviting intenders for the design of the Marigot Hospital,” Dr Darroux stated. The Health Minister sought to assure residents of Marigot and surrounding communities, who benefit from health services at that facility, that they are not being ignored. He said “there’s this feeling out there that Marigot is being targeted for whatever reason” but as a medical doctor, who found himself in politics “because of my human nature, and my performance as a district medical officer, and my love for people” and as such he would “not allow any particular region, or any particular person to be marginalized”.“Which is why I’m one of those great advocators and cheerleaders for the Minister of Finance’s initiative in terms of the pilot health insurance because a lot of times we have to move away from that ad hock access that people have for funding for advance medical care into an Dominica is to benefit from a Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) funded SMART Health Care Facilities project worth US38.3 million dollars being supported by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (UK AID).Through this program, three medical facilities in Grand Bay, La Plaine and Marigot have been selected to undergo major improvements designed to make them disaster resilient and environmentally friendly.“So whatever it is we are going to do for Marigot, we are now going to incorporate the designs for the smart facility for Marigot in terms of renewable energy, solar panels, proper water supply, etc. So Marigot has not been forgotten as it has been made to appear to be,” Dr Darroux assured.
