Indians Begin Seven Game Homestand Tonight, the Tribe Starting Nine Against the Mariners

This is the beginning of a seven game home-stand that will include the M’s and White Sox. The Indians swept the Mariners in three games back in April. Cleveland comes into tonight’s game with a record of 16-13 on the season. They are three games of the Minnesota Twins for first place in the division. The Mariners are 18-15 on the season. They have lost four in a row and are half a game behind the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West.On the mound for the Cleveland Indians is right handed pitcher Shane Bieber. The righty is 2-1 on the season with an ERA of 3.68 in 29.1 innings pitched. Last time out Bieber went six innings with three earned runs given up. He gave up a home run on three hits and four walks. He received a no-decision against the Houston Astros.Bieber’s counterpart with left handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. The M’s pitcher is 1-1 with an ERA of 4.54 on the season in 33.2 innings pitched. His last game pitched was verse the Texas Rangers. Vikings Top Lions 34-24 to Complete Season Sweep

first_imgThe Vikings defeated the Detroit Lions 34-24 at home Sunday to sweep the season series against Detroit and improve to 6-4 while dropping Detroit to 4-5.  Minnesota led 13-3 at halftime and held on in the 2nd half.  Adrian Peterson ran for 171 yards on 27 carries and 1 touchdown plus he scored on a 2-point conversion.  Kyle Rudolph was th top receiver for Minnesota with 7 catches for 64 yards and 1 touchdown for Minnesota.Getty ImagesChristian Ponder was much better for the Vikings completing 24-32 for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions.  Percy Harvin sat out the game with a spraind ankle.  Rookie Jarius Wright saw his first regular season action and had 3 catches for 65 yards and 1 touchdown.The Vikings had 2 sacks of Mathew Stafford and forced 2 turnovers.  Minnesota is on bye week 11 before playing the Bears in Chicago on November 25 at noon, pregame on WJON at 11am.last_img read more

Former UConn Final Four starter Stanley Robinson dies at 32

first_img Former UConn basketball player Stanley Robinson has died of unknown causes at a family residence in Birmingham. He was 32.Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Robinson was found unresponsive by a family member Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. in his hometown. He was pronounced dead at the scene 11 minutes later.Robinson, who had turned 32 on July 14, played at UConn from 2006-10. The 6-foot-9 forward started 103 career games and averaged 9.8 points and 6.2 rebounds over four seasons.He was Alabama’s Mr. Basketball at Huffman High School and was a starting forward on the Huskies’ Final Four team in 2008-09.Yates said Birmingham police are investigating the death but that no evidence had been found of foul play or trauma. He said official cause of death was pending results of toxicology analysis and other tests.“I am truly heartbroken,” said Hall of Famer Jim Calhoun, Robinson’s coach at UConn. “Stanley was such a beautiful person, caring and giving. He was a gentle soul, too gentle for this world.“He was not only loved by his teammates, but everybody who met Sticks liked him. He will always be a Husky.”Robinson was drafted by the Orlando Magic in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft but was waived on the last day of training camp.
